The IS-2 was a heavy tank developed in the Soviet Union in the waning years of World War II. It was a direct descendant of the earlier KV-1 heavy tank program and was intended to correct deficiencies in armor layout, mobility and firepower. The IS-2’s thick frontal armor was designed as defense against the powerful guns of the German Tiger and Panther tanks, while it’s own main gun could defeat its opposition at normal combat ranges of about 1000 yards. The IS-2 was primarily to be used as a breakthrough tank and its gun was provided with a powerful high-explosive shell, useful for knocking out enemy infantry and fortifications.

The IS-2 was first introduced to front line units in April, 1944. It was issued to special elite Guards Brigade who were called upon to clear out strong points or heavy pockets of enemy resistance. Once the defending fortifications and enemy armor was defeated, faster tanks such as the T-34 could then exploit the breakthrough. No less than three full battalions of IS-2s were committed during the climatic Battle of Berlin, where they were supported by assault infantry, sappers and flame thrower teams. The IS-2 was instrumental in reducing enemy resistance by using its powerful main to destroy entire buildings.  IS-2 turret number 434 “Combat Friend” was part of the 7th Independent Guards Heavy Tank Brigade, which reached the Reichstag and Brandenburg gate in the heart of Berlin.

Join us July 24-26, 2015 for World War Brick Hartford for the first-ever specifically historic military LEGO® modeling event on the East Coast. There will be displays created by LEGO® enthusiasts from across the country, fun and games, friendly competitions and more. Our gathering is meant to share our enthusiasm for historic modeling, building with LEGO® bricks, and to raise awareness and money for Veterans.

World War Brick Hartford will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hartford – Cromwell (100 Berlin Road Cromwell, CT 06416 United States). We have secured the 9,000 SF main ballroom and will have plenty of space for displays, workshops, activities, games and the WWB store. The hotel is a 25 minute drive from the Hartford-Springfield Bradley (BDL) Airport. We have chosen Connecticut for its central location for all of our North Eastern friends.

Weekend Pass holders will be eligible for all three days of activities and will receive a goodie bag that includes a T-shirt, event kit, and special gifts from the event sponsors. Public Exhibition

The merely curious are invited to attend during the Public Exhibition taking place Saturday and Sunday. During this time you will be able to see hundreds of unique historic military models, shop exclusive items from our sponsors, watch exciting tournament action, meet the craftspeople behind the exhibits, and join games and activities that benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The public exhibit hours are 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday only. Visitors who pre-pay online will be admitted entrance starting at 9:30 and will receive a free ticket good for one activity or the raffle. PURCHASE HERE

Museum Quality Displays

World War Brick was founded by Daniel Siskind, an award-winning maker of historical models and displays built from LEGO® Bricks. Founded in 1999 under the name Brickmania, Daniel and his team produce the finest quality historical displays featured in museums, memorials, reunions, and schools, and whose custom kits are enjoyed in homes around the world.

Brickmania will have several major works viewable at World War Brick like a model of the World War II destroyer USS Nicholas that measures 11 feet in length. Other displays include a Battle of the Bulge diorama, a Vietnam War montage, a homage to the Battle of Mogadishu (made famous in the book and movie “Black Hawk Down”) and more.

There will be many other creations and models on display created by World War Brick attendees, mainly in historical themes, but also a smattering of science fiction and other subjects.

We’re Building to the Next Level

The official LEGO® product line does not include modern military themes. To help fill this gap, BrickArms founder Will Chapman began manufacturing his own injection-molded plastic weapons designed specifically for use with the LEGO system. Since it’s humble beginning in a garage in a suburban Seattle in 2006, BrickArms has gained a huge international following and a reputation one of the finest-quality American toy manufacturers. The A12 Infantry Tank Mk II, universally known as the Matilda II, was a British tank used in the Second World War. Its designed intent was to support infantry units during attacks, therefore it was heavily armored at the expense of mobility and firepower. It’s armament consisted of a QF 2 Pounder (40mm) anti-tank gun and a single Besa machine gun mounted coaxially in the turret. The Matilda II is the only British tank to see action during the entire war, but it is most commonly associated with the North Africa campaign. Its unique disruptive camouflage pattern was modeled after the type used on World War I battleships. Its heavy armor outclassed most contemporary early war German tanks and for a time earned it the nickname “Queen of the Desert.” The arrival of increasingly more powerfully armed German tanks caused the Matilda II to be phased out of operations in North Africa by the end of 1942.

Brickmania staff were call into Brickmania Headquarters late last night to find the office walls covered in blaster scorch marks and the desks and windows riddled with bullet holes.  An expert on the scene commented how the blast marks were ” too precise for sand people.”  Review of the Brickmania surveillance data revealed the guilty parties. Some time around midnight the Empire and the German Afrika Corps broke into the Armory and clashed.  A passing Droid and some rebels on the outskirts were drawn into the skirmish.  The Rebels eventually bowed out of the skirmish and let the battle resolve itself.  Due to this unprovoked aggression we are taking away all their weapons.

The QF (“Quick Firing”) 25-Pounder was the standard British field gun of World War II and was developed to correct deficiencies found in British field pieces during the First World War.  Design improvements included a new carriage with armored shield and built-in platform that allowed quick repositioning of the gun. The 25 Pounder could be fired at a high angle like a traditional howitzer, but could also be direct fired against attacking infantry and armored vehicles. The 25 Pounder was the standard field gun of all British and Commonwealth units during World War II and was not complete phased out of service until the 1970s. PANZER II Ausf C

The Panzer II was German light tank of World War II. It was a stop-gap design, rushed into production just prior to the outbreak of fighting,  while the more advanced Panzer III and Panzer IVs were still under development. Armed with a 20mm cannon and MG34 machine gun, the Panzer proved to be a competent design and played a significant role early in the war. It participated in such as the campaigns in Poland, France, Soviet Union, and North Africa. While it was a successful design, the Panzer II’s light armor and weapons would be no match for heavier Allied equipment introduced later in the war. The Panzer II chassis was also used for several self-propelled guns, including the effective Mardar II tank destroyer and the Wespe 105mm howitzer.

The Brickmania Panzer II Ausf C was modeled after the tanks of the Deutsches Afrikakorps, who fought in the desert campaigns of North Africa in 1940-1942.
